Ivette Arroyo

Ivette Arroyo has more than 17 years of experience working with housing, poverty alleviation and urban research. Working experience as practitioner, lecturer, and researcher. She worked for both the private sector and the academia in Ecuador from 1995-2010. Ex-director of the former Institute for Urban and Regional Planning (IPUR) at Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil, Ecuador. Postgraduate education carried out in the United Kingdom (1998), Spain (2010) and Sweden. Licentiate degree from Lund University in 2013 on organized self-help housing in Costa Rica and Ecuador. PhD degree from Lund University in 2019 on housing recovery and user involvement after disasters focusing on areas affected by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Currently doing research on sustainable ways of living together and intergenerational and multicultural integration in Sweden. Guest lecturer and tutor in the postgraduate course Urban Shelter Workshop and Urban Shelter Theory, carried out by Housing Development & management at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Lund University.

Interested in housing research, post-disaster housing, adaptive building reuse, urban crisis and resilience, critical realism, mix-methods and participatory methods.
